Does Yahoo Mail have read receipts?

The short answer

Yahoo Mail does not have read receipts. There is no setting to turn on, no checkbox in the compose window, and no paid tier that unlocks it. This is true on the Yahoo Mail website and in the Yahoo Mail mobile apps. If you’ve been hunting through the settings for it, you can stop — it isn’t there.

Why Yahoo Mail has no read receipts

Traditional read receipts are a feature of corporate mail systems like Microsoft Exchange, where the sender and recipient sit inside the same managed environment. Consumer webmail — Yahoo Mail, Gmail, free Outlook.com — was never built that way, so none of them ship a reliable native receipt. Yahoo simply never added one, and there’s no sign it will.

What people try instead (and why it falls short)

• Waiting for a reply. Only tells you anything if the person actually replies. Silence is ambiguous — ignored, or never seen?
• Return-receipt requests. Yahoo doesn’t offer them, so this isn’t an option at all inside Yahoo Mail.
• Read-notification links. Pasting a tracked link works only if the recipient clicks it, which most won’t.
